Québec a Nation History (Part 15)

Battle of the Plains of Abraham

The Battle of the Plains of Abraham, also known as the Battle of Quebec, was a pivotal battle in the Seven Years' War referred to as the French and Indian War in the United States.

The culmination of a three-month siege by the British, the battle lasted less than an hour. British troops commanded by General James Wolfe successfully resisted the column advance of French troops and Québecers military under Louis-Joseph, Marquis de Montcalm, using new tactics that proved extremely effective against standard military formations used in most large European conflicts. Both generals were mortally wounded during the battle; Wolfe died on the field within minutes of engagement and Montcalm died the next morning.

The French forces continued to fight and prevailed in several battles after Quebec was captured, but the British did not relinquish their hold on the fortress. It was the beginning of 250 years of occupation.

  • @josephonwhidbey do you consider yourself as a citizen of Canada or as a British subject? I am a real "Canadien", an "Habitant" of Québec. My loyalty goes to my people, not to a foreign country or monarchy. You are a British loyalist. In my opinion you can go live in England, on your knees and kiss the Queen ass.

  • @TalonMercenary the Battle of the plains of Abraham is not a really important part of the war, it lasted barely 15 minutes. Six month later the same army fought on the same field, during the battle of Sainte-Foy, it lasted 2 hours. The French won, but France never send reinforcement. Brief, the French, the Natives and the English fought during 7 years, they fought many battle and in the end the English won. By claiming they only shot 2 volleys you diminish their hard work during this war.

  • @TalonMercenary 250 ans d'occupation et le Québec est toujours Français.

  • One of the greatest moments that defined us as a future nation.

  • @gotsda

ok,since the 80s. also people are leaving at the same time. go to east london,go to bradford,go to birmingham. same things happening to canada i noticed. you have such a large country with a small population and the majority of people looking for a better life are from the developing world. it's pretty obvious canada, france and the uk will eventually be asian countries. nothing wrong with that of course, but i worry about the islamic extreimsts.

  • @Patriote17 But u r french lol.

  • @menacinghat since 2001

  • @menacinghat So your telling me a total of 20 Million people have immigrated into Britain? Thats ridiculous people would have no food and resort to eating their pets.

  • @Apophis150 Actually Montcalm had about a days food left, and had to organise his men quickly as Wolfe had attacked the city from an area guarded by only 100 men.

If he had waited he would have lost either way.

  • @planetrockford Yeah they did, probably as its easier to keep their new subjects sweet than kill a few of them.

  • To my knowledge after this war the British government allowed the French language to be spoken and customs to continue as before.
