i saw this when it first came out. i remember it being really good. i remember busey and the other two being great, but now i am revisting this after all the years.........busey and the boys were not only good, THEY WERE SENSATIONAL. what a brilliant performance by gary busey. i don't remember who won the oscar that year but,man, it should have been him. he totally brings buddy holly to life. his vocals and stage presence were absolutely brilliant!!!!!!!!!!!!

Busey's best performance in a movie, in my opinion. Too bad the drugs and accident messed him up...he was brilliant in this movie.

THE FIRST TIME I HEARD THIS WAS A COVER VERSION BY PETER & GORDON 1965) I DONT REMEMBER BUDDY HOLLY AS A PERFORMER (WOULD HAVE BEEN TOO YOUNG (ABOUT 5 AT THE TIME) HAVE SEEN THE FILM OF THE "BUDDY HOLLY STORY) AND AGREE THAT GARY BUSEY PERFORMANCE WAS BRILLIANT. AT THE VERY END OF THE FILM WHEN HE FINISHES HIS GIG SAYING "SEE YOU ALL NEXT YEAR" THEN IT CAME ON THE SCREEN HOW HE DIED THAT NIGHT IN A PLANE CRASH THEN PLAYED TRUE LOVE WAYS FOUND TO BE VERY MOVING.

That is such a lovely story. I love this movie and think Gary Busey deserved an Oscar for it!
