Gee Chung led The Greater Yorkville Residents Association to invite Riverboat owner Bernie Fiedler, author Nicholas Jennings and Heritage Toronto to recognize the significant cultural contribution that the Riverboat Coffeehouse was centre of in the sixties and seventies.

The Heritage Toronto plaque was unveiled on Thursday, June 18, 2009 with a number of musicians attending, including Gordon Lightfoot, Murray McLauchlan, Dan Hill, Honey Novick, Stan Endersby, Shirley Eikhard, Chick Roberts and many more.

Generous support came from donors to The Riverboat plaque project: the Bloor-Yorkville BIA, The Rotary Club of Toronto - Forest Hill, Herta Scholz, The Greater Yorkville Residents' Association, Dr. Lancelt A. Brown, the ABC Residents' Association and Magentalane Music Limited. Additional support for the plaque unveiling event came from ONE Restauant and Long & McQuade (sound system). The Hazelton Hotel generously allowed the event to take place at its front entrance.

  • We are preparing now for the 5oth anniversary of the Mariposa Folk Festival and Lightfoot will be back after getting rained off the stage by a lightening storm in 07. I was on the main stage camera and we have it on tape for the archives. Watching Neil Young on YT took me back to a memory of him singing at the Riverboat and someone's dog was howling back to his singing...those were the days..thanks for posting this and for all those who remember the Village ...

  • The Riverboat (and all of the clubs in Yorkville) can never be replaced. I was lucky enough to play there in the late sixties with a band called "Flying Circus" that featured a young Bruce Cockburn.

Watching this video really takes me back - Murray, Brent and of course Mr. Lightfoot and my dear friend and partner in many ventures Stan Endersby. Sure miss those fabulous days!
