@writingsinthesky um... Smashing is used to describe the saxons, it's British slang like America's "cool" it doesn't mean that they're hating and putting them down.

I am just about tired of people "smashing saxons" - when that means Scandinavians. What are these folks afraid of? That they have an underbite -- and Saxons do not?

My mom and I looked up Earl Harold Godwin, we found him in our family tree, and apparently he chose "ordeal by cake" after he was accused of murdering Alfred son of Ethelred the Unready. (You know, it's really disturbing when you find out about your ancestors like this)
