This is the console port of the arcade hit Daytona USA. This version appeared just a bit after the launch of the Saturn, and is well known for the evident pop-in and bad framerate. It features a few additions like a radar (in compensation, I guess, for the lack of the transmission change animation) and a Saturn Mode, which has no checkpoints and adds a few selectable cars.

This walkthrough covers the 3 circuits of the game, the later one being beaten in a still quite demanding easy mode. Don't look at me like that, the first lap is nearly pro quality and my personal record :)

  • @dangerous3168850 Deskawa.

His (?) name is mentioned right in the description...

  • wait! how come it's widescreen?

  • @rafenwulf it wasn't that bad bearing in mind being an early rushed port from such a powerful arcade board (model 2) to a bunch of weird chips and complex hardware that was the Sega Saturn :P

  • Daytona rocked the arcade with shiny and smooth graphics, huge projection screens, force feedback chairs and steering wheels, what could beat that? Ahh, nostalgia! Then I finally bought the Saturn just to play Daytona at home, only to be sorely disappointed...what a load of crap, an insult to the proud owners of that way overpriced console (for which I regrettedly traded in my SegaCD) *sigh*

  • Gameover YEAHHHHHHH!

    ...oops, wrong game.

  • D.E.S....... desmond?

  • And to think that people think the XBLA/PSN release is this version...

Oh well. This was one of the first games I got with the Saturn (due to that 3 free games deal) and played the hell out of it. Sure, the performance left a lot to be desired, but I loved everything else about it that it didn't matter.

  • My heart was in my mouth at the very last turn
