If you're handy with computer hardware, replacing the hinges is a simple fix. All you have to do is read the service manual and buy the parts off of ebay (usually less than $10). Seriously, a monkey could do it.
this was my first laptop, it worked great until one day i broke the screen, it still works great, i just use it hooked up to my tv, but now im useing a compaq desktop which works nice, but know im in the market for something higher end, im gunna get the sony vaio nw, i love it
My fan,dvd drive, and enter button are all fucked up. It'll cost me near 90 bucks to fix! Worth it though, the damn thing ran good when i first got it in 05

Great laptop. I like the Compaq V5000. The only problem is you have to refurbish it yourself to get it to the condition it SHOULD be in.

That exactly what mine is like, although plastic has broken off where the vents are and the back of the screen housing is cracked. :(
