@SpecialBrowny74 You sir are a troll. Nothing more. I respect your opinion, yes our troops fought bravely, if we had invaded mainland Japan we would have lost millions more. The bombs are what showed Japan that they had no chance of winning. Our troops could have taken Japan out but we went with the safer way to spare lives. Either way we would have won the war but at a much higher cost. Good day sir!

@username115able your fucking stupid. we won the war because of the power, bravery, and sheer tenacity of the united states armed forces. japan was already defeated by the time the bombs were dropped, those were just the icing on the cake. Given if the bombs were not dropped the U.S would have been forced to invade Japan, but their fate was sealed. there was no way the Japanese would be able to win the war.

@zyzor Really? When trying to seem educated it is best to have some knowledge of the subject matter. Your post is totally incorrect. No one died taking Midway as it never was taken by the Japanese. The vast majority of islands taken during the Pacific war were used with strategic value. This is easy info to study....please do.
Semper Fi !!

the problem with the island hopping campaign was that so many men died to take some godforsaken worthless spit of land in the middle of nowhere and within days of taking it, it no longer served any strategic purpose . for the most part with some small exceptions. Midway being one.

@username115able The Americans would have won eventually. The bombs just convinced Japan to surrender.

6 Disliker= 6 Japanese ;)

@DutchGasMask Yes that is true. However, the war wasn't anywhere near finishing. It was essentially over, an inevitable outcome, with the defeat of the Japanese, though the casualties of an invasion of Japan itself are estimated to have been as high as 1 million. So the war would have dragged on with the invasion, but i seriously doubt it would have failed. The atomic bombs simply shortered the war.

@ZZaiBoT2011 That sentence was formed rather poorly...we didn't win because of our troops, we won because of our fancy new bombs that vaporized two of their cities in the blink of an eye.
