Bonus track off 2011 release Little Hell

Lyrics:

I was raised in catholic school,
Taught to obey that one golden rule
That is, He who sits in the Heavens above
Deserves all your praise, devotion and your love
Because he had a son who had died for our sins
And with that sacrifice came a sense of contrition
That we all seem to feel when we're down on our knees
Looking up to die hoping he'll answer all our needs

But I tend to believe that it's all for not
And when the sun does set, all our souls will rot
Along with our flesh and our bones and our blood
Will seep into the earth reconnecting with the mud
And I think to myself, what a beautiful lie
To waste being devout to what could all turn out to be a lie
To be a lie

Now I do not know, but I have been told
If you don't believe in Him, well then the devil owns your soul
But let us just examine what's below this land
It's the story of a man with a pitchfork in his hand
Could you honestly believe in such a tall, tall tale
Something that sounds so make believe just like the sailor and the whale

Well I guess that this song has sealed my own fate
Lucifer won't take me, ain't crossing through no pearly gates
But if either one exists well that's fine by me
I will gladly spend the afterlife waiting in purgatory, purgatory

Note: I do not own this track or claim it to be mine, all music and lyrics written by Dallas Green - Dine Alone Records

  • If Dallas doesnt go to heaven I dont want to be there either

  • Dallas is one of my favorite musicians ever,I'm a christian. And as a christian you have to respect others religions and whatnot. It's a wide known fact that Dallas is an atheist. And I still do look up to him music-wise. He's really helped me become a better musician by covering songs I've learned so much. His music is amazing and I'll always be a fan

  • in Dallas we trust

  • when I didn't think I could have any more respect for Dallas, I stumbled upon this song.

  • @FourForGlenCoco Spot on.

  • @FourForGlenCoco Agreed. I could care less what religion/philosophy you belong to, as long as you are a decent, kind person is all that should matter. Actions are what make you a good/bad person, not what you believe in. "Live for the moment, for who knows what lies next." and "Death is but the next great adventure."

  • I respect religious people and their "Beliefs," but I really dislike how people can be so ignorant about how their belief is 100% certain to be true. No person on earth has ever known exactly what happens when you die, or how the Earth/Life was created and no one ever will. People really need to stop wasting their time and start living their lives. Saying that God exists is like saying unicorns exist. NO ONE WILL EVER KNOW. Well until they die that is.

  • @DeafeningProduction Same here bro.. I agree with you, never went to church either.. I was just correcting the lyrics in the description..

  • Alright here's the deal. I haven't gone to church all my life. Does that make me a bad person? No it doens't. And did it influence my beliefs or my choice not to believe in god? Hell yeah it did. But just because Dallas sings about "God" and that we should question him. I completely agree. If you have a problem with what Dallas sings about gtfo.. and btw to all of you who say that you will pray for him to believe..I'm sure he couldn't care less because it wont help him

  • It's "Looking up to 'GOD'", Not looking up to Die....

    Lol.

The rest of the lyrics seem accurate.

  • This song gives me so many shivers, I 100% agree with Dallas' words.

I won't die happy until I meet this guy!

  • oh my, thought this was just some annoyingly preachy song for the longest time so I never listened to the whole thing until just now. comforting to know one of my favourite musicians shares a similar outlook on this subject as I do.
