http://www.playpiano.com/timesignatures.htm Meter in music is defined by a key signature at the beginning of a piece of music. It tells two things: how many counts or beats in a measure, and what type of note gets one count. Time signatures can be in 4/4, 3/4, 2/4, 6/8, and many others.
