  • @dentrobate54 I don't know any downtowners who want to get rid of streetcars - they have their place (although I will admit the current operations are not world standard - see Part II video). Though I would certainly welcome more subways like DRL if someone would be willing to pay for it. What I don't want to see is wasted money or money spent bringing transit to a place that already has it -- Scab Town Ctr. If $ appear, send the Sheppard subway west to Spadina line as a spur instead!

  • Toronto is an elitist city. The biggest problem that they face in public transportation is convincing citizens to actually use it. The attitude of "public transit is for poor people" dominates the city.

With that knowledge, the city needs to build transit that people will actually use, and that is subway lines. Yes, they are expensive, but the comfort of a subway over a bus means more people will use it.

I live in Seoul. Their modern, extensive subway is what Toronto should strive for.

  • @Nexus11 I have to disagree. Compared to American cities, Torontonians take a very non-elitist view of public transit and people of all incomes will ride buses, streetcars and subways. That said, rail vehicles do attract high income riders in greater numbers due to their comfort and reliability but this applies to LRT as much as subways. Do I wish Toronto had as many subways as Seoul? You bet. Failing that, I would rather see LRT than nothing.

  • Brilliant. A spot-on interpretation of what it's like to talk to Rob Ford supporters. Essentially like talking to a brick wall. Was this video borne out of frustration from a conversation you had?

  • @GoJuDragon82 Unfortunately for your credibility, I've lived in Manhattan since 2000. And guess what, we're looking at adding LRT and streetcars here too. Zing!

  • @rehsabthgir

    Guess what,

Have you ever rode the LRT? IT IS LOUD AS FUCK, YOU CAN'T HEAR YOURSELF TALK. FUCK THE LRT. Muh subway muthafucka.

  • @dentrobate54 There is a previously buried report that explains the very obvious reasons (obvious even before the report) why LRT is better than a subway for Sheppard Ave. Anyway, how's that shutting people out thing working for the fat fuck crowd these days?

  • @Octoberpunk, you seem to be mixing "streetcar" and "LRT". Transit City was a kind of weak LRT but an LRT nonetheless. That is ideal for less dense areas and similar to systems found across North America. The downtown streetcars are currently operating as mixed-traffic "streetcars", which cities like Seattle and Portland have added to supplement their LRT systems since streetcars are more about downtown livability and urban development than pure commuting. There is room for both in Toronto.

  • @ptiger96 Do you even realize Toronto's streetcar system is the worst in the world? It's not even a proper streetcar system like David Miller dreamt of. At this point, Transit City is a worst scenario ever could happen. What David Miller and Adam Giambrone planned was a streetcar system just like in some European cities where they have great row's and grade separated tram ways. The current streetcar routes are way far from what they dreamt of.

  • @Octoberpunk Yes, of course. Whatever anecdotal experience you have today is absolutely exactly what all future experiences will be in every city for all time. Seriously, you need to get out of Toronto and see what streetcars and LRT can be like when not beat down by ignorant yokels who refuse to support their expansion and reinvestment.

  • Do you live in Toronto or take the streetcars daily? Fuck this, streetcars are slower by FAR A LOT than walking on foot if you're travelling in Downtown. And comfortable? Seriously? Dude, streetcars does not even have A/C... and they all smell like shit.

  • Holy shit, this is funny!

  • this was fun, Ford supporters are typical conservatives who are typlically clueless about anything beyond there own drive ways, he wants a sheppard line that the TTC dose not even want as it would drain millions of dollars from them a year there is not enough people to warrent a sheppard line, but his developer friends want it, he just wants a peice of that developer money, its like flys to shit...

  • @Nexus11 have you ever even lived in toronto or even used the TTC? or are you stupid? the attitude that public transit is for the poor simply dose not exist in the city of toronto, i have lived here for 30 years and its just not the case in toronoto EVERYONE uses the TTC, there is no need to convince people to use it, infact trasit city was created becuase in the down town core too many people used it, and they need to relieve the conjestion created, or are you a FORD TROLL?
