Back in the day, before freestyle motocross, arenacross races featured some sort intermission competition. At the Canadian arenacrosses in the early 90s, it was the long jump competition.

The competition was only open to the pro class riders. It seems simple enough, but as you see in this video, jumping as far as you can off of a somewhat tricky jump isn't as easy as it sounds.

The notable performance in this video is by Brett Devries. At the time, Brett was cleaning house in the Arenacross races. At the races I went to, there was no one even close to him. Unfortunately, he broke his arm badly in his second crash. The really unfortunate thing is that it seemed like he had a lot of positive momentum going in his career at the time.

Sean Naslund borrowed my bike to do the long jump competition. It probably wasn't set up very good for him, but he gave it a good try anyhow.

Shawn Galbraith ended up taking the win.
