Scary looking wasp (Digger Bee) digs a hole in my back yard

These weird looking wasps are trying to invade my backyard. They are usually white with black stripes but some are a fluorescent yellow or green (like the one I taped). They each dig their own individual holes in the ground, and they don't seem to be nesting or trying to build a hive. If you recognize this type of bee let me know. I've never seen these before...global warming maybe? FYI - I live in Northern California near the coast.

those are digger bees or something, they look thinner so they must be some weird wasp. but maybe there just different because theyre in california.
