  • Just wow.

  • @PowerSprinter Shot put uses the most strength out of any of the lifts, but Cantwell is leagues above other top throwers in strength. I was mentioning David Storl, the young German. He's very tall (2m+), but thin and fast, probably weighing around 120 kilos.

The thing about 500# bench or 600# squat, those are standard numbers for elite SP. Cantwell benches more than others squat, though.

I mean, of the 4 outdoor throws, SP needs the most strength, but technique is always king.

  • @EndlersaurusRex who beat him that was vastly smaller? I know hoffa and one other american can beat him, and they all bench over 500 pounds! Any shotputter beating Cantwell can bench 500 and squat 600 im sure. You are right that technique is important, but too many people act like lifting isnt king. With shotput, lifting is beyond huge. Its not like javelin

  • @PowerSprinter Despite his strength, Cantwell doesn't hold the WR. Additionally, he doesn't consistently beat the other Americans (though he has the furthest PR), even though he's overwhelmingly stronger.

On top of that, someone around the same height, but of vastly inferior strength and overall size (and age) completely destroyed Cantwell at the Worlds. Cantwell has some far throws, but his subpar technique compared to others is shown in his inconsistency. Shot put has the least technique, tho.

  • @EndlersaurusRex the funny thing is there are no throwers who are much smaller than him outdoing his marks since hes one of the best in the world

  • @cornnellify And the throwers who have further PRs with less size and strength are proof technique trumps strength :P (though strength is important)

  • he's proof that strength (and speed strength) is key. Last year, for the most part his shoulder was destroyed and he was throwing with basically no block but still pushing the sob 21-22meters.

  • huh crazy....i cant

  • @Kiddowesth he is a sjot putter, that's why.

  • I'm the strongest bird
