In rural Rajasthan, many kids have to work during the day, looking after goats or helping their parents. Their only chance to get formal education is to attent a night school, supported by the barefoot college in Tilonia. Some of them - like this one - have a room, most night schools take place outside. Their only light are solar lantern, provided by the barefoot college. School is from 6-9pm in winter and 7-10pm in summer, Monday til Saturday, without holidays. Nightschools elect a childrens parliament which is made of members of parliament for each one of the 70+ schools. There current elected prime minister is the girl with the orange dress sitting at the left side. She is 12 years old and 4th grade. All grades 1-5 are taught together.
I shot this little movie when I visited the barefoot college in Winter 2009/2010. For German speaking people I recommend my blog http://ankeseye.com for stories, pictures and background.
