This 1975 230.6 in excellent condition has a very nice, dry place to stay. Especially during these wet winters in The Netherlands, it would rust real fast when left outside. Sadly, I had to drive it during two weeks, while I swapped the engine of my W123 200D.

  • Very interesting choice of Engine swap, How much modification is needed to have a 200D engine installed? Did you build a custom engine mount?

How's about the transmission, was it a lot of work?

    Thnaks

  • Hi, the car of which I swapped an engine is my daily driver, a W123, not the one you see here (W114). But I'll handle your question as if it was mounted in this car in the vid.

The modifications to change this 2.3 petrol engine for a 4 cil. diesel are few. The mounts are the same, so no problems here. The manual gearboxes are all the same for all Mercedes W114 200-300 and W123 200-300 models 1968-1985. So the original gearbox can stay put.

  • Pretty much the only thing left is the electric for the glowplugs and it's relais and the exhaust.

Easy way is to take a complete manifold and exhaust of a diesel car and swap the complete system. Many people fabricate their own however with junk parts.

  • What's left is the starter inside the interior.

Old Mercedes diesels are to be pre-glowed and started by a pullknob, instead of turning the key. That knob is to be installed and that will be most of the work to change a petrol engine for a diesel.

  • that thing sounds crazy! what kind of motor does it have in it? it sort of sounds diesel, and also sounds like a v8.

  • Hey man, thanks for your reply. It's a very small straight six, 2248 cubic cm's, called 230.6 It's indeed a very 'raw' engine. Lot of torque at low rpm, it keeps it's max torque 'till about 4000 rpm, so a very smooth engine, although very small. Mercedes sadly never built V8's in this model. Some people modified their W114's with the 500 V8 of the S-class. That seems to be no problem, just a matter of adjusting the mounts and exhaust.

p.s. dont swap petrol into a diesel, it is not a good! :(

  • Wow thanks kindly for your quick reply, that answered all I need to know. I have a w114 1972 250C with WEBER Carbs and ignition system upgrade. She is running fine but with the Gas price going over $3.00/Gal these days, Im thinking of getting a small Diesel swap.

    Again Thanks
