In 1985, Robert Ballard grabbed the worlds attention when he discovered the Titanic at the bottom of the Atlantic off the coast of Newfoundland. Few knew that when he found the infamous ocean liner, he was on a secret intelligence mission for the U.S. Navy. A reservist in the Navy, Ballard reveals how he got his project funded by agreeing to be brought into active duty to secretly investigate two Cold War tragedies: the loss in the 1960s of two American nuclear submarines. Any time left over would go towards the hunt for the Titanic. What he finds not only puts to rest the mystery of what happened to these submarines, but yields important clues that ultimately lead to Ballards ultimate prize.
He was on a mission to retrieve the byzanium the U.S. government needed for its top-secret missile defence system, right?
Oh wait, that was 'Raise the Titanic'. Nevermind ^^.
