@IDWTPH I think he gets all the credit he deserves. He won six slams, he was #1 two years in a row and also won Davis Cup, the junior Grand Slam and an olympic medal. He's one of the greatest of all time, but I would say he's in a lower group one level behind than the say likes of Sampras, Federer, Borg, Laver.
Edberg goes with guys like Becker, Connors, McEnroe, Lendl. They are all great anyway, true champions and players who have their names engraved in tennis history forever.

I think my point was really that he seems to be the forgotten great, ya know? He, Becker, Lendl, etc...played with a bunch of other fantastc players. Can you imagine much they would have won if they played in a water-downed field?

Although baseline play rules today's professional tennis, net game is still viable in recreational tennis - especially in doubles. There is no better example of a serve & volley, aggressive all-court game than that of Edberg. We all can still learn from the Master how to play better tennis.

Anyone else think Edberg doesn't get the credit he deserves now for being as great as he was?

It seems to hardly matter now. Many other greats from his era are being forgotten. Even many people I play with (who started in the last 5~6 years) all know Federer, but not really Sampras (making me feel so old). On the other hand, I myself have never seen Borg play a full match, so I cannot appreciate him too much. This must be life.
