An overview of keypoints for high school field hockey umpires concerning changes to the free hit rule for the 2010/11 field hockey season. The self pass option (also known as the self start option) and indirect circle entry requirements.
ICE applies to all free hits and side-ins inside the attacking 23 meter/25 yard area (this includes long corners) regardless of whether the restarter uses a self pass.
A question - I am assuming that ICE only applies to self starting. If a player chooses to start in the traditional fashion, can she hit it directly into the circle?
