@ponsau Throughout the Second World War, many Chinese soldiers and civilians used the dao to fight the Japanese. Only Japanese officers carried swords but they were primarily Shinguntos, cheap factory made swords. Only a handful are genuine swords most likely family heirlooms. Japanese soldiers only had bayonets to fight the Chinese in close quarter combat and the dao could easily cut them down with a single strike.
@MrLantean I just bought one. Hanwei forge in Dalian china makes a commemorative Chinese war sword for this very battle. Its beautiful and also comes with a chinese propaganda poster done on canvas depicting the soldiers carrying their daos into battle. I wouldn't be surprised if this thing could cut a cows head off. I've seen one cut two pigs heads off at one time, made by cold steel. The video is on youtube.
@ponsau The movie is made to commemorate the Defence of the Great Wall in 1933 by Chinese soldiers. It is ths conflict where the Chinese war sword, the dao is immortalized as symbol of Chinese resistance against Japanese invaders. The dao is very useful and lethal in close quarter combat. It can easily cut a man in half with one stroke. Japanese soldiers were later issued with iron collars to protect their necks but they offered very little protection against the blows from the dao.
