Dream Theater is not overrated yes, but maybe he meant to say that everybody thinks there's only dream theater and no other great prog bands.

Right, also without this "Overrated Band" the majority of the bands in this series wouldn't be playing like they do. They should be highly regarded for the massive impact they had on the genre (Prog metal was around before them yes...)

For me, the technique style or seperate in 2 kinds: structure and virtuosity. For Dream Theater they lost there way in virtuosity that scrap the melody struture. And most of all, LOTS of bands excel in the fusion of the 2 kinds, and NEVER be know for there worth ans value.
P.S. Not to forget, the EFFORT and feeling, the music universal language, they put to built masterpiece that, no band every, can reproduce.

I have a question. Do you dislike Dream Theater in general or just think they're overrated? Because I personally love them but despise all the fans that worship everything they do because they think they're the best musicians alive.

Even though DT is a great band, I couldn't agree more that they're the only prog metal band anyone ever seems to talk about. It doesn't help that to find any good prog metal, you usually have to sift through a mountain of third rate DT clones. Even though Opeth is my fave band, I have trouble thinking of them as "prog metal" because all their progressive influences come directly from classic 70s prog, rather than from other prog metal bands.

I think you all misinterpret the concept of a band being "overrated".
Possibly if all of these "prog fans" would shut up about dream theater for once, and give credit to a few other early innovators of the genre, then DT would in fact, not be overrated, but unfortunately, that seems to be impossible. All I ever hear about in regards to Prog metal these days is "DT this" and "DT that", when there are obviously a myriad of much more unique, and frankly, more interesting modern prog bands around.
Congrats on getting the audio back, Great video! I'll check out some of these bands... Have you had Vanden Plas in a compilation yet?
