"The difference in our approaches is clear. We don't think all the answers lie in Washington."

--

"The problem with this approach is we dont want to have to sit in Washington and mandate all these things. What youre saying is you want to define exactly what kind of health insurance people can have, you want to mandate that they buy this kind of health insurance, and so on.

"We simply say- if the National Restaurant Association or the National Federation of Independent Business on behalf of their members wants to set up an association health plan, we think theyll probably do a good job on behalf of their members.

"Let them decide to do that instead of restricting insurance competition. By federalizing the regulation of insurance, and by mandating exactly how itll work, you make it more expensive and you reduce the competition among insurers for peoples business.

"We want to decentralize the system, give more power to small businesses, more power to individuals, and make insurance compete more. But if you federalize it, you standardize it and mandate it, you do not achieve that. And thats the big difference."

  • Paul Ryan 2012!!

  • This is the first republican I've liked in a long time. Finally an intelligent speaker with common sense, not you typical rep. baffoon looking out for his career. I would consider voteing for this guy if he runs for president in12.

  • If anyone is stupid enough to tell you privatizing health care will make it more affordable ask them how much people in Canada, Germany or France pay for it. Then say

    "I thought so!"

  • i mean... i feel like he's just stating the obvious..

we all know that republicans and democrats think differently...

  • God, he destroyed the President, and he wasn't even really talking to him! Just as good as the first time I saw this. This is the side of Republicans that we're not allowed to see. Persuasive, and effective. Which is why BO cut this short.

  • i would love to see obama response

  • Ryan is the insurance lobby's nigger!

  • Let's take a look at the insurance ladder; let's see big insurance? No, too expensive and sometimes responsible for deaths. Small insurance? Never heard of that but not very effective for revitalizing health care. What's the last rung? Government insurance.

  • Wow - Congressman Ryan, nice work! You were polite, concise and sensible. Compared with President Obama's constant demagoguery, you're a breath of fresh air.

If I didn't feel that there were already too many staffers on the Hill, I'd love to return to speech writing, but I feel like I can better serve the country by staying in the private sector. God bless you in your work and keep up the good fight.

  • Bravo Paul! very succinct and spot on. hmm. and then Obama.. le-le le uh uh uh. Why didn't he reply to Paul? Cause he would have to say that he does want the gov to regulate the people because gov does a better job. laughable.
