"Lies My Father Told Me", (Canadian - 1975) Director: Jan Kadar - Pt. 8 of 8 - The story of David Herman, a young Orthodox Jewish boy growing up in the Montreal ghetto of the 1920s, and the deep love between him and his Grandfather Zaida (Yossi Yadin), a sweet and deeply religious man. David also loves Ferdeleh, the old horse that pulls Zaida's junk wagon. His mother, Annie (Marilyn Lightstone), is warm and loving, but his father, Harry (Len Birman), has a modern mindset, is full of get-rich quick schemes, and disapproves of David's ties to his traditional, and devout, grandfather. Ted Allan (Mr. Baumgarten), Henry Gamer (Uncle Benny), Barbara Chilcott (Mrs. Tannenbaum), Cleo (Cleo Pascal), Mrs. Bondy (Mignon Elkins), Edna (Carol Lazare).

  • Wonderful movie, they dont make them like this any more. At the end, was that david's imagination? Loved it.

  • @silentmoviequeen Yes: it was like a dream sequence. If you watch Kadar's Czech movie, "The Shop on Main Street", the end of that movie is very similar to this one, in that it ends on a happy dream sequence following the reality of a sad and tragic ending.

  • Absolutely brilliant, well done. I realised that the old classics simply can't be matched, thanks for taking the time to upload it.

    God bless

  • @yahoogetter Thank you - my pleasure!

  • Thank you for giving us this wonderful film on YouTube. It deserves a much wider distribution, but even Netflix doesn't have it yet. Well done!

  • @ammamona You're very welcome! I've wanted to upload it for a long time, and still can't believe I managed it. :)
