Argentina international Martin Demichelis initially struggled to settle in Munich after arriving from Buenos Aires giants River Plate, but he eventually achieved regular status in defensive midfield and is now in his sixth season at Bayern. A string of consistently impressive displays earned him a first full cap in 2005, although his dream of a place in the Argentine squad for the 2006 World Cup in Germany went unfulfilled. Micho now rates as a regular for club and country, and is rated one of the best around in his favoured position at centre-half.
