Hey bluesborn
I'm doing a project on jazz in Hull and Aylmer in those year. Any chance I can get a copy of your photos? Write me at jpmsax@live.com

Sorry I forgot-the Standish Hall Hotel was in Hull Quebec. My folks used to head over there to party all the time back in the day.

My Dad picked up a car for Duke when the band played at the Standish Hall Hotel in Ottawa back in the late 40s.I've got some pics of my parents sitting with some of the cats in the band with their autographs,including-Johnny Hodges,Wendall Marshall,Duke himself,Harry Carney,Sonny Greer,Jimmy Hamilton and Nelson Williams.Definitely one of my most prized possessions.

It's actually from 1940.

The sound of nonchalance.

That trumpet solo is so amazing....

with all of the education we have these days, we don't sound anything close to this, I loved playing this song.
-
I believe this recorded in either 1953 or 1954. Quentin Jackson played the muted trombone solo, and that is DEFINITELY Clark Terry (The GREAT Clark Terry) on trumpet solo.

Harlem Airshaft (E. Ellington) 1940; 2:57 Duke Ellington, Cootie Williams, Barney Bigard...
What a fabulous recording of this song! Tell me more about the recording, please. What year? Live?
