Grandia II - Boss Battle: Mareg

Just started playing this game yesterday and felt like recording one of the boss battles.

My impression so far is positive, excellent battle system that leaves a lot to be learned even after you've got all the basics, a relatively liberal customization system, interesting story & characters and a great soundtrack. I don't regret the purchase at all!

My strategy for this boss may not be the best, but I at least I am pretty sure I knew what I was doing, and that's not bad for the second day of playing a new game.

Ryudo is the best damage dealer with Tenseiken Slash thanks to all the SP I've spent on it, and the delay effect is neat, as long as his turn comes in any time except right after the boss (like in the beginning of the fight).

The boss only attacks Ryudo and nobody else so it may have been a better idea to defend and attack with everyone else, but if I did that the battle would have taken more time.

I had Elena cast offensive magic and when she ran out of MP, switched to using her basic move. Roan's role was mainly to heal, but he somehow dealt the final blow in the battle, right after Ryudo ran out of SP.

Fun stuff, I'm really enjoying this game.

Something tells me that if I timed my attacks differently, I could have had more success in delaying his attacks forever but whatever. I still have a lot of time to delve into the subtleties of this game's battle system.

I played the PS2 version and used a capture device. It's broken now so I can't record anything anymore for the time being.

never really liked grandia, I was never a big fan of the battle system but it sounds like your enjoying it

This brings me back to like 10 years ago when I first had it on the Dreamcast.

It was the first RPG I ever played.

I remember getting so pissed because Mareg always raped the crap out of me. It took me at least 10 times till I finally beat him :p

my fight vs mareg was cool :D I was lucky with ZAP. Always land paralyse till fight ends :)

by far my favorite rpg out now. i loved it better than grandia 1....that one took WAAAAAY too long to level up. this one was perfect....tha only thing i hated was that when i first got this game my dumbass rushed thru and got utterly raped by tha heart of valmar....now i constantly train, and if anything, tensaiken slash was at 5 stars before we even knew who milennia was!
