The Yorkshire terrier's ancestors were hunters by nature. They started out as commoners' dogs, responsible for catching the multitude of rats that plagued Yorkshire, England in the late 1800s.

  • not true not all yorkies are fiesty and bite some are really nice and freindly like mine

  • Anyone who believes that they are all "yappy" and "snappy" - that is what we call a Stereotype. If you meet Yorkie's that are "yappy" and "snappy" it is not *their* fault, it is the careless owner's fault. Some Yorkie owners believe that since they are small, that it is harsh to discipline them and correct their wrong behaviors. If some owners took responsibility and actually trained their Yorkie's, then the dogs would not have such a wrong Stereotype. So if you get a dog (any dog), train them.

  • That guy's voice is from Disney Channel!

  • @0TheBestMan That is what Vet's call a "Little Dog Complex". Anything that is bigger than them is usually percieved as a threat.

  • @AYorkieNamedJill Obviously a well trained dog of any breed will behave the way you want it to, but there is no denying that Yorkshire Terrier's are far more prone to developing yappy, narcissistic personalities. For whatever reason, it's the way nature intended them to be. If you have one that's well behaved, then it is only a testament to your training ability, not the Yorkshire breed.

  • Oh boy my Yorkie got me in sooooo much trouble, the number of times I had to rush to pull him out of the jaws of bigger dogs, one time I had to jump on a bench and keep him up in the air while the doberman he had gotten into a "skirmish" him wanted to get him back XD ... I miss him so much :( Died at 18 years of age, had him since I was 1, pretty much lived him life with him!

  • @Games2view Yes people are always surprised about how well trained and obedient my Yorkie is. They are also surprised with my knowledge of dogs. I've gotten used to it ahaha. x3

  • @AYorkieNamedJill so true.. met owners of yorkies that are the most immature things. they need to discipline the dogs regardless of their small size
