Kunak Kaamatan Beauty Pageant

On 23rd May 2009, Kunakians celebrated the 2009 Kaamatan (Harvest) Festival. The Kunak District level celebration was officially launched by the local state assemblyman Nilwan Kabang at Kampong Kadazan, Kunak. Among the programs for the day was "Unduk Ngadau" a Kadazan-Dusun traditional beauty pageant contest. The six finalists are depicted in this video clip. I'm not giving out the results for the contest as I leave these gorgeous "sumandaq" (Dusun word for "virgin") to you. They are all YOURS.... ehm!..Don't get me wrong...they are yours ONLY to vote as winner, runner-up, second runner-up and so on...
Anyway, I think this is the only "Kampong Kadazan" in Sabah (and in the world) although the Kadazan-Dusun is the largest native ethnic group of Sabah--- KUNAK is TRULY UNIQUE!

Much to my dismay as well, contestant no.2, Epi Hilester S.Asenti (I apologize to her if I got the spelling of her name incorrect) was not crowned as winner. She's still young though and has more opportunities in upcoming contests.
