@A57003 I was also looking for it on my 5100. Its under "Custom Settings Menu" (3rd icon down) then in "d Shooting/display" its the first option and "File number sequence" will be 2 options below it

great video but i have a question about shooting in RAW, i have a canon 500D and its my first DSLR, when shooting in JPEG on a 2GB card i can get 279 photos however when i shoot in RAW it says i can only get 80 ! is this normal ? and is it really worth having to take multiple memory cards on a shoot because of this ? thanks again !

@Macintoshblogger Hi Ben, thats normal since RAW has more information in the file (which allows you to change more).
I would either suggest getting a bigger card. I have a 8GB SDHC (cost about £15 with free postage in the uk) and i get 800 shots on there. or just take multiple if you don't mind changing cards.
Then again, if you dont find yourself editing your photos that much, maybe RAW isnt for you. I didnt start shooting RAW until a year ago, i shot JPG fpr 3 years.

@LittleDaren press the I (info) button on the back of the camera (bottom left) and then scroll through the settings on the right of the screen until you see the AF-A/S/C.
thanks:)

Do you have any advice on a entry level DSLR, I was looking at the Panasonic G10, I need a DSLR that can shoot HD video. Thanks

@jordansalkeld1 Firstly i'd say choose a brand such as Canon or Nikon, as if you ever want to upgrade in the future all your lenses will still work with the newer cameras, if you go Panasonic and you decide you want a better camera, the lenses you bought will no longer be useful.
And if it is mainly for HD video, i would recommend the Canon 550D, as the video quality is amazing, plus it gives you full manual control. Or if your budged it slightly less, go for the Nikon D3100
