@45rpmsingle is that not the whole point of the song? i realise she gets the last verse wrong, but i think nevertheless the intention of the song is genuine- she still says: "the crime he didnt do"

But, she gets it wrong!!! The last verse should have read 'go down you MURDERERS, go down'. It was the police, judge, jury, hangman who murdered Timothy.

Evans wasnt a murderer so I dont understand your comment which infers Evans was"the murderer"?
The hanging of Timothy Evans is one of the greatest miscarriages in British justice. Evans` wife and infant child. Evans protested at trial his landlord was the murderer but crucial facts were withheld from the jury who found Evans guilty and he was hanged.
Shortly after the truth about Christie emerged and he was hanged in 1953 but it was too late for innocent Evans.
