This video describes a bed garden designed for deep root plants.
It does not have the square foot garden grid that is crucial to running an efficient garden but it will have eventually. See Mel Bartholomew's square foot garden system at his website http://www.squarefootgardening.com. Of course there are many youtube videos on this system.

I am not satisfied with just having a garden that has six inches of soil because I really cannot grow deep root crops. I would like to try some asparagus and growing things that have root systems that go down deep. So here is something else I tried and we will see how it works. The box you are looking at now is going to be a square foot garden. I built it last Spring.

Did have some mint growing in it. As you can see it is left over. We will see what grows. Anyway I did the same thing with this. I put a plastic liner in the very bottom of it to hold water. Then I used drain tile just to put inside the reservoir. After that I put Mel's Mix right inside of this. As I did I went ahead and mixed in a bunch of dirt and soil that I had around. It was just sandy and clay stuff just to mix in it as filler. It is not going to hurt a thing. Maybe even help improve a little of the soil condition for such deep root plants.

I have also got some drain tile put in installed vertically. It goes down to the water reservoir. I can go ahead and check the water level in there as I please and I can see if it is going to be good or not.
