No, Phoebus doesn't die. It's truly hilarious tho. It says something along the lines of "Phoebus suffered a tragic fate too. He was married." That chapter is only about a page long and that's the final sentence, and the only one that mentions Phoebus, even though the chapter title is "The Marriage of Phoebus" LOL!

The Black Cauldron does have a dark and scary feel to it, but Hunchback has far darker themes.
The corruption of the church, lust, racism, witch hunts, dark gregorian chants, and many scary situations all make this a pretty gothic movie (Not goth, Gothic lol)
