Rat Staring Contest With Background Music

This video was shown on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno (14th April 2009), Rude Tube (13th October 2010), Animal Planet's Untamed and Uncut, MTV3 and was the number one video on G4's Attack of The Show. And probably some others that I've forgotten!

The cage in the video is a hamster cage and is much, much too small for even a single rat. They don't live in it and was used only for introducing these two pairs in a confined space. They live in a huuuge cage with many hammocks, ropes and soft beds, so no worries guys ;)

Rats perform this bizarre behaviour when they feel their dominance is being threatened, but nowhere else have I ever heard of rats standing up like this for over five minutes straight at a time! Normally it should be for just a couple of seconds. I believe these two brothers learned that by looking busy with each other like this, the older rats wouldn't challenge them.

@TechnoSkittles Yeah, I do the same thing. I just hope you are right. Some people would probably keep them in a cage that small, whether because they are ignorant or don't care.

@NicoleJackson4481 That may be the cage this rat-parent uses to house his/her rats while their regular cage is being cleaned. I keep my little girl in a hamster cage during our weekly cage cleaning, or trips to the vet.

Those rats are fighting, I hope you supervise them and I really hope that they don't live in that cage (1:52) because that is not even close to enough room to house that many rats. I have a cage about 5 times that size for my two rats. For four rats or more you really need a vary large cage for them to be happy. (The more room and toys the better) Very cute rats though! My Zoe looks a bit like the black rat on the right although Zoe is a bit bigger.

@ProjectCircaBellum at least a dog can save lives etc. WTF can a rat do besides eat cheese! a dog is much more reliable than a rodent.

@TheHeavyamor911 Feral rats are nasty creatures, just like feral dogs. but youll by a dog before a rat even though a dog can destroy children unlike a little rat haha Rats are honestly my next favorite pet to dogs, then rats, ferrets and cat in following order.
