On 19th April 2007 Adivasis struggling for the issue of land were brutally attacked by police and forest department in Ghateha village, Deodhar Tehsil (District Rewa, Madhya Pradesh). Police mercilessly used tear-gas and bullets against a crowd of 2000 people. 3 adivasis feared killed and about hundred people injured in police firing and many were in critical condition. The struggle for land was being resolved through negotiations with the District Magistrate, but the forest department wanted to use force and sabotage the negotiations.
A month after the attack and after a lot of struggle by organisations in Reva and movements across the country, the IG Shri B. Maria ordered an high level enquiry into the firing incident of 19th April 2007 that took place in the village Ghateha. The medical examination of the victims was done in the Rewa PGI hospital under the instruction of IG and Commissioner of Rewa. The complaint of two missing girls was also lodged by the Police
