Gama was originally from my State that is Jammu and Kashmir State. His ancestor had moved out of Kashmir valley and were Butts. They only married in the family. These were Butts who were Kashmiri Brahmins before they converted to Islam. Kulsoom the wife of Nawaz Sharif (also a Kashmiri) is from the family of Gama.

Our tradition is wrestling is second to none. Probably the greatest wrestler ever, that is Gama was an Indian. Now we have the world champion in Sushil Kumar. We must push this sport as this is our national sport. The Indian media under foreign influence is anti-wrestling for political reasons. Remember wrestling is a MANLY sport!.

Olympic freestyle wrestling bans submissions and has much more rules which is why India no longer dominate. The traditional Indian pehlwani style is much more suited to the old Catch wrestling rules as opposed to the Olympic freestyle rules. Also back then wrestling was even bigger than cricket in India. If India funded its wrestling programs and utilized their Pehlwani heritage for Catch-style submission wrestling, Indian would dominate again. Olympic style wrestling is too bland IMO

Indian pehlwan wrestlers were considered to be the best in the world back in 1920's because they were undefeated against European, Japanese, and African opponents. Imam Bux and Gama were so dominant there is an article I can link to where one spectator says Indian wrestlers were from a superior race. You have to remember though that this was submission catch wrestling which was popular back then and very similar to Pehlwani.

I do wrestling in northern ireland :) These indian wrestlers dont get nothing given to them . . . it isnt fair really.

Seriously im ashamed of india sometimes, they do not support enough wrestling, or any strength athletes like this, they should get their act together and start to support these talents instead of concentrating on cricket all the time.
