Kari Byron introduces the VEX Gateway game for 2011-2012 season. The VEX Gateway game animation is presented for the first time.

VEX Gateway is played on a 12'x12' square field configured as seen above. Two alliances -- one "red" and one "blue" -- composed of two teams each, compete in matches consisting of a twenty-second autonomous period followed by two minutes of driver-controlled play. The object of the game is to attain a higher score than your opponent Alliance by Scoring Barrels and Balls in Goals, earning Bonus Points and Doubling or Negating Goals.
Game Details

There are a total of twenty-six (26) Barrels, eighteen (18) Balls, two (2) Doubler Barrels and two (2) Negation Barrels available as Scoring Objects in the game. Most Scoring Objects begin in designated locations on the field, while some are available to be loaded prior or during the match. Each Robot (smaller than 18"x18"x18" to start) begins a match on one of their Alliance Starting Tiles. There are thirteen Goals, of varying heights which teams can Score Balls or Barrels in. Alliances earn Bonus Points for having the lowest Ball or Barrel in a Circular Goal. Doubler or Negation Barrels which are scored alter the point values in a Circular Goal. The field is divided into sections by two 6' long PVC Gates that teams can lift during the Match.

  • I still like First Robotics Competition more.

  • i was there! go team 2177 The FIVE!

  • What in the world made them think that we liked VEX Clean Sweep? It sucked! Roundup was a well-made game, kudos to them, but Clean Sweep? Please, that was a fail of a game where there were only like 2 designs: a shield and a scoop.

No VEX, we did not like Clean Sweep. More Roundup please.

  • Me Gusta Kari... deliciosa!!!!!!

  • @tokyomason Well, the problem with opening ASAP is that the opponent can get into your area and just dump a negation barrel in the goal with a lot of points. Leaving it down until the last second would allow you to keep your points. Also, the robot in the Interaction Zone could also give the point scoirng to the one in the isolation zone. Just food for thought. Also, @Aahbozz ... FU!!!!!!!! Vex is amazing! Could you do anything these high schoolers could?! Thumbs up if you agree!

  • @BlueX273 -And it's in the rules. "You can not break the plane of the opposite alliance's robot"

  • This looks too complicated. I still like cleansweep the best

  • this is going to be fun! ugh look forward to seeing the designs next year I hated when they said the negative effect of a black object that sucked!

  • Why wouldn't you open the gate ASAP?

Is there any point of waiting?

Shouldnt the team just open their gate ASAP so they can score? It doesn't go back down, it stays up.

Is there any actual point to the gate aspect or is it just a gimmick?

  • @johnvneun Ok, how so? Also, VexRoboticsTeam1148, that's the same thing I thought. Without anyone in the isolation zones, people can finally go Autonomous in peace! XD
