Walk on the dark side - Rainy day yet again, dusting off the Avionik after 3 month in the shelf. Bit like playing $150,- pokies at the local park, but was obviously a bit wet for the dopey local Sherriff to fine us again..lol But you pay $227 in the local flying club and watch them crash 20kgs aerobats..but a decent FAI race plane makes the colostomy bag of the committee members froth......viva MAAA and MAAQ! Guess trying to get some go in QLD is a bit like our FIFA soccer team when it comes to world class performance...

  • As for flying it..its probably the easiest to fly pylon I ever had due to its size. Landing is straight forward and slow with a few mm flaps down. I havent been able to stall it or make it drop a wing with that setup...and you can actually thermal it with engine out.

PS: Sounds odd..but best prop for that setup (as on video here) is a APC 4.75x5.5 (oversquare).

  • Thanks. Power train is a long can 3150kv APC motor, 100A Phoenix ICE ESC, and a Thunder Power 2650mAh 45C 4S lipo. RX power is a 400mAh, 6v NiMh pack (fits nicely right behind the motor and gives perfect CofG. Servos are Hyperions, mixing isflaps/elevator - but only on elevator up...flaps down. No mixing at elevator down movement. RX is the carbon friendly Spektrum - it has 2 long whiskers..coming out just behind the wing about 45mm. No interference.

  • Okay. Just another question or two. I just noticed that you have a flapped version. How well do the flaps work with this model? Are you using the Hyperion DS09's? Do you have to tape the ailerons to prevent flutter or are there any behaviors in general to be aware of with this model? Cheers.

  • Great video. Great Plane. Great Flying. If you don't mind my asking, what is the power train you are using (motor, ESC, lipo, and prop)? It looks like you aren't using a dedicated RX pack. I don't see any aerials sticking out either. How did you setup and power your RX?
