Latest research from the University of Reading suggests that domestic cats could be significantly affecting some urban bird species. The research looks beyond the major causes of bird population declines and begins to analyse the contribution of cats by quantifying their predation rates, hunting movements and home ranges. The project is funded by NERC and is supported by the University of Swansea.

  • @MitchH452 Some do, some don't... In my last neighbourhood I once went for a 10 minute walk at night and counted the amount of cats i saw... There were 9. O_o But keep in mind the roads are very quiet. Most owners who do it like to give their cat their freedom. I'm sure it's not just limited to the UK though... o,O

  • Do people in the UK really leave their cats outside at night?! That's just stupid.

  • Brilliant! Kudos on the science.
