Innovated in 1981 by renowned dancer- choreographer ANNA HALPRIN, and led by her each year in Marin County, California, the PLANETARY DANCE is a powerful springtime event of communities of people around the world who gather annually to bring concerns and contemporary issues into the context of spiritual life. Because of the global concerns regarding our planet's climatic condition, the theme of the 2008 Marin County Planetary Dance is MAKE PEACE WITH THE PLANET. As is tradition, the Marin County Planetary Dance begins at dawn, with a ceremony on the top of Mt Tamalpais. It continues to Santos Meadow, near Muir Woods, where the centerpiece of the daylong event takes place: the Earth Run. A community feast follows. People of all ages, ethnicities, walks of life and physical abilities are invited to participate. For more information about the EVENT log onto the PLANETARY DANCE WEBSITE www.planetarydance.org
A documentary film about the Planetary Dance is being produced by John Veltri and Marguerite Lorimer of EARTHALIVE COMMUNICATIONS. For more information about the FILM log onto www.earthalive.com

  • What a heartening and inspiring event beautifully filmed and presented!! Perhaps there is hope afterall for the survival of humans, many other species living on Earth (so many have gone extinct and others are threatened), and our beautiful Planet Earth itself. Thank you for this hopeful vision and prayer for peace!!

  • I had the opportunity to participate in Planetary Dance several years ago. It was profound and moving being part of a greater whole where my personal expression was essential for the whole, as were all others'. I'll never forget the drumbeat/heartbeat of the dance reverberating through me. If you have the chance, DANCE! Wish I could be there this year. Namasté. (P.S. You don't have to be a "dancer" to dance, or even physically fit -- just be there and participate.)
