@guyfidelity I wonder if you’re equating the abiliity to play melodically with being “slick”? I'd recommend listening to some of the music Stan recorded with Kenny Barron, Laurindo Almeida, or with his own groups, which at times included Horace Silver, Chick Corea, Jimmy Raney, etc. He possessed gorgeous tone, unerring pitch, unique lyricism, a sophisticated harmonic concept, and impeccable phrasing.
Humans are complicated. Not every great artist has a congenial personality. So.

Agreed for sure. Getz was so sugary and slick certainly not a monster innovator like Joe or Coltrane. I had heard that Getz was a bit much personality wise. Thanks for keeping the conversation civilized, it seems to be a bit of a rarity here on utube.

@guyfidelity Who's Coltrane?....... Nah just messing with you. Respect though. Good comeback. :) Ironic how in personality Coltrane was far more peaceful and played agressively whereas Getz from all reports was a douche and played with such a sweet tone- just random facts. Peace.

@SaXDuDe17 OK so you don't like Stan and your a sax player. Getz was no monster but to quote Coltrane..."We all wish we could play a sweet as Stan"

@guyfidelity pffft. Making Stan proud? Henderson blows Getz off the chart. Have you heard Henderson's album of Jobim tunes: Double Rainbow? Makes Getz look like an amateur. Peace.
