The recital will be held at University Christian Church 4731 15th Ave. NE, Seattle renowned for its excellent acoustics

Chopin's music has a remarkable relevance and expressive immediacy to audiences, its appeal as universal today as when it first appeared nearly 200 years ago. His music is unique in its exploration of the personal, in its vivid evocation of the subtle interplay of shades of feeling, at times welling up into emotions intense and overwhelming, that resonate deeply with the day-to-day human experience. Perhaps it is even more important to audiences of today, when the inner life of the individual is so often drowned out by the hectic pace and information overload of the modern world.

His music is constantly with us, and is central to the pianist's repertoire. Yet, with its immediate appeal, it is easy to take Chopin's art for granted and to overlook the truly radical nature of much of his work and that he was perhaps the most original artist of his time. His place in musical history and the huge influence his works had on his contemporaries and followers is too often underestimated.

Hailed as a "heroic virtuoso," Mark Salman's performances have been described as "powerful," "astonishing, exacting and evocative," "dramatic," "wildly imaginative" and "touchingly lyrical." Of his performance of Beethoven's Hammerklavier sonata one authority stated, "there are probably only five or six pianists in the world who can play [it] as perfectly." His performance of Liszt's transcription of the Beethoven Seventh Symphony closing his 2004-2005 Liszt series was named one of the three "Performances of the Year" for 2005 by the Seattle Weekly.
Mr. Salman's performances have taken him to Europe, Asia, Canada and throughout the United States. He has performed in Carnegie Hall and Alice Tully Hall in New York City, has been the subject of profiles in The New York Times and has been featured in numerous radio and television broadcasts in the U.S. and in China. His account of his meetings with and playing for Vladimir Horowitz appears in David Dubal's book, Evenings with Horowitz. Mr. Salman is a co-founder of the Delmarva Piano Festival in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware, which recently completed its sixteenth season. Recent performances have included his debut at the Newport Music Festival in Newport, Rhode Island, an eight recital series devoted to the works of Franz Liszt in Seattle, three recitals featuring Schubert's final three sonatas, and a complete cycle of Beethoven's five piano concertos and Choral Fantasy with Orchestra Seattle. This season, in addition to numerous recital, concerto and chamber music performances, he will be presenting "A Chopin Celebration,' a series of three recitals in Seattle celebrating the 200th anniversary of Chopin's birth. Mr. Salman is a Steinway artist.
Besides his wide-ranging repertoire, Mr. Salman is perhaps best known for his expertise on Beethoven, having performed the complete cycle of the thirty-two piano sonatas on both coasts as well as in 18 broadcasts on KING-FM in Seattle. Currently in production is Beethoven and his 32 Piano Sonatas -- A Musical Universe, a sixteen-part video series featuring Mr. Salman's performances of the complete sonata cycle, hosted by the noted author and commentator, David Dubal. DVD volumes one and two have recently been released on the Great Composers label, www.greatcomposers.us.
Mr. Salman's recordings include The Transcendental Piano, featuring works by Alkan, Beethoven and Liszt on Titanic Records, Mozart's Piano Concertos K. 488 and K. 503 with the Northwest Sinfonietta conducted by Christophe Chagnard on the Immortal Classics label, an all-Chopin CD on Great Composers, as well as American Interweave, featuring contemporary American works for cello and piano on Ambassador Records. Soon to be released is the first disc in Mr. Salman's Beethoven cycle, featuring the Moonlight, Op. 2, No.1 and Op.101 sonatas. Also available in limited release are the first four live performances from his 2004-2005 Liszt series.
Mr. Salman is a native of Connecticut, where he began his studies at the age of eight and made his recital debut at eleven. A graduate of The Juilliard School, he studied with Richard Fabre and Josef Raieff. He previously attended the Massachusetts Institute of Technology for two years, where he concentrated on chamber music and composition, studying with the noted composer, John Harbison.

  • Very passionate and soulful. Really takes his time. Fantastic dynamic range. Kudos.

  • I'm not keen on the video editing (too many changing of camera angles), but this is a very emotive performance, which outweighs 'perfection' in my opinion...

  • 3 people must be seriously serial.

  • Such feeling..the fact he makes slight mistakes yet plays with a passionate madness makes it even more perfect then the technical proficiency versions other pianists do

  • berk... autant j'adore énormément cette musique, mais je n'aime pas du tout cette interprétation, il y a trop de manières, beaucoup trop, ca fait mal aux oreilles et même aux yeux, de voir ce pianiste en faire de trop.

  • @32103940 And this is what im thinking when you order a piano like that you can precicely order the height of the feet but it is not only about that it is about in which height you feel the most comfortable...

  • i can play this too.... but im not as good or as tall : (

  • @t5239857289578947594 LOL but true, I think hes really tall

  • Goddammit, audience, STFU!
