July 20, 2010 Frack Action Albany Senate Chambers Press Conference
The unconventional gas extraction method used to release natural gas deposits is called hydraulic fracturing, or "fracking." During the Fracking process over 500 chemicals, along with thousands of gallons of water, are injected into the earth. Local ground water systems are often contaminated.
Oil and gas companies are currently exempt from disclosing the chemicals they use (many of which have been found to be known neurotoxins and carcinogens) because of a 2005 Energy Bill loophole masterminded by Dick Cheney and passed by congress under George W. Bush. Fracking is totally unregulated by the EPA.
Gas companies have already enticed property owners to lease their lands for drilling in New York's southern tier including Sullivan, Delaware and Ulster counties.
the quicker people find out about this, the sooner it will be stopped. the hydrogen sulfide gas releases from these NG wells eat away the hinges of a door, or barbed wire on a fence. Imagine what it will do your lungs etc. Norway and France pour money into NG drilling here because its banned in their country.
