@daeuri, By the way, something I forgot to mention in my prior comment to you. If you hadn't already noticed? Those 3 G1 turf stakes that are all run on the same day at Arlington Park that I mentioned are all usually very heavily influenced by European horses coming across the Atlantic for what a lot of the trainers in the UK, France, and Ireland consider an easy pickings payday!!
@daeuri, I would love it if every 4 or 5 years an American turf horse emerged that was good enough to travel to France and face the best Euro horses in the Arc. But in the US, there's so much emphasis on dirt racing and so little on turf racing. After the 3 G1 turf stakes run on the same day at Arlington Park each year, i.e., the Secretariat, Beverly D., and Arlington Million, turf racing in the US almost becomes an after thought. There's ten fold more G1-G2 stakes on dirt than turf in America.
@GBeret83 It just occurred to me that in 2008, Raven's Pass and henrythenavigator finished 1-2 in the BC Classic. I am just thinking that the horses I mentioned in the earlier post would be given the respect here they deserved had they competed and won in the BC Turf or Turf Mile. Correspondingly, someday I would like to see American horses truly compete in the Arc.
@daeuri, I very much agree that we've seen the best of Goldikova, Conduit, High Chaparral, and Daylami. As for Giant's Causeway and Sakhee. Considering it was both's first ever career attempt, and in the case of Giant's Causeway, his only career attempt at conventional dirt, I don't think either of those horses have a thing to feel disgraced about. Tiznow was a beast on dirt, and for both to come that close to beating him speak volumes. Sakhee ran a lot better in the BC Classic than the DWC,IMO.
@GBeret83 It's the rare horse that can run successfully on both dirt and grass. Why do you suppose some of these great European horses pass over the BC Turf or Mile to run on a surface in which they have so little experience? It's pretty obvious to me that America did not see the best that Galileo, Hawkwing, George Washington, Sakhee, and Giant's Causeway had to offer (Although they did see it out of High Chaparall, Conduit, Daylami, and Goldikova).
@Patriot751, Honestly, I thought Tiznow was beaten by Sakhee that day!! I think everyone watching the Classic that day did? But like you said, that's when Tiznow was at his best!! Just when you thought he was beaten!!
@GBeret83 GBeret83, I was at Belmont Park the day of his 2nd Classic victory. I bet 100.00 dollars to win on Tiznow at 8.5 to 1 and I thought he was beat at the top of the stretch. Somehow, he rallied to beat Sakhee by a nose and everybody was stunned. I went to the winners circle and CJ McCarron had a look as he arrived at the winners cicle like he could not believe what this big guy did. I visited Tiznow in Kentucky in 05 and took a couple of pictures with him what awesome looking individual!
@Patriot751, You're 110% correct with that comment, my friend!! You never really saw the best out of Tiznow until these great European horses like Giant's Causeway and Sakhee rolled up on his outside to challenge, and then Tiznow suddenly shifted gears straight into "all heart"!!
Giant shoulda won.
