When everyone is losing their jobs and houses, which fundamentals of the economy are left? The hill sides? The prairies?
The single greatest impediment to addressing the credit crunch was the extreme degree of propagandised denial, even as the problem was self-evident to everyone outside the political classes.
When politicians refuse to accept there's a problem, it's impossible for them to act pre-emptively.
Reassuring the naive with denial can only delay the remedy and worsen the problem.
