The nation's rural areas have been generating a bit of buzz lately, and that is sitting well with a leading House Democrat who's also the author of the federal Rural Star legislation.

Electric co-ops and the Rural Star legislation are the focus of an ad on behalf of House Majority Whip James Clyburn, D-S.C.

Not only are electric cooperatives the focus of the legislation, but now they are also part of a political campaign ad airing on behalf of House Majority Whip James Clyburn, D-S.C.

The 30-second spot, now running on television and radio stations in Clyburn's district, cites co-ops and the legislation that would provide low-interest loans to homeowners for efficiency upgrades. The Rural Energy Savings Program Act cleared the House Sept. 16 and is pending in the Senate.

The commercial was produced by Bud Ferillo, a South Carolina advertising and public relations consultant.
