Della was a 10 month old Siberian Husky/Labrador Retriever mix who died sometime between the night of May 12th, 2010 and the morning of May 13th, 2010. She was taken to the vet a few days before due to vomiting and inability to move. No one could find the cause of her illness and everything seemed fine on the 12th, she looked happy, healthy, and ready to go home. That night she threw up blood and died later on.

My uncle assumes it was rat poisoning. But her kidneys worked fine and were not blocked by solidified rat poison. I personally think she caught salmonella from all the chickens she ate. She wasn't kept on a leash and was free to run around, she would run to the chicken farmer's house and kill them. I do not condone this sort of treatment at all. My dog Sera is kept in her pen or with me at all times. While I consider Della my own, she was not. And due to inability to drive (eye sight problems) and the hour long trip it takes to get to my Aunt's house I did not get to see her often. I only did what I could when I could, trained her, raised her, and loved her as if she were my own. Alas this was not enough.

I implore you, if you're the type to just let your dogs run loose consider a fence, a pen, a leash, or keep them indoors with you to keep them safe. Don't let them end up like Della. And please please PLEASE spend as much time with them as you can. Dogs are not toys you can just go to when you feel like it. They need love and attention just like a child would.

As said in the video, the music is Air by Baroque Composer Johann Sebastian Bach.
It is specifically the version used in End of Evangelion as it is my favorite version and shows a lot of emotion. I chose this song for 2 reasons. I liked it and it fit, and Della's step-sister Sera (my dog) was named after the short form of Latin Seraphina, meaning "burning one" which I later recalled was the name of a character in the Playstation 1 game "Mega Man Legends II" which also uses music from Bach so it seemed fitting.

  • Im really sorry about that. My mom and I have had lots of dogs and have had our fair share to the vet. I'm no vet, but considering the symptoms, I think you might be right on that one, or she got a hold of either salt meats, baking soda, large amounts of chocolate, etc...when no one was looking. Most vets don't see that when examining animals. I've seen this same problem in 4 different dogs (1 was mine) and it was cause by the same issue (as listed above). I'm truly sorry.
