  • @HumbertoGillianLennon Sorry, but the term "Acid Rock" is incorrect. A label placed by the over 30 crowd for a range of music they never listened to but heard about from the acid test days. In those days any music over 2:30 min was seldom played on the Top 40 AM stations. It was only until FM stations became stereo that long album tracks were played. And the term used for all of the rock music was "Progressive Rock". One doesn't need a drug to appreciate the musical complexities achieved.

  • Progressive Rock came along a little later, with bands like Yes, The Nice, etc.

  • Acid Rock was/is proper for sounds that fit the bill and were known as that. "We" knew what acid rock was and how its sound defined it, much of the time. Progressive Rock overlaps into this area with some groups, for sure, but isn't the same. Contains more jazzy elements. Great post here.

  • "Acid Rock" is perfectly acceptable, HumbertoGillianLennon. beatbackthejungle, you sound like a pedantic asshat.

  • "Liiife is loove....Love is liiife."

  • pretty amazing through-composed electric guitar band composition - these guys were not garage-band potheads, they were real and actual musicians, of some impressive skill

  • "Acid rock" is a perfectly accurate label for music that we, the folks listening it, enjoyed with the augmentation of psychedelics. And some still do, gawd luv 'em! it may not be what the creators of the music intended, but hell, some of these tunes just worked so wunderfly that way. On the other hand, it didn't work so well with, say, Tommy Roe, or even Dionne Warwick.

  • Well I cannot post anything as I keep running out of letters. I detest not being able to post a positive response when I am restricted by the amount of data I can supply, as someone who lived in the Haight and knew John Cippolina very well. I had a large post and it kept tellingme I was out of space. Sorry. Maybe I will post it on Facebook.

  • One of the most populary songs was called codine! And the music was westcoastcountry-based acidrock, they lived in the same house like greatful dead and jefferson airplane and some of the members were from mexico, just like canned heat, the sound was oscillating between these famous soulbrothers. The singer/songwriter john cippolina has founded this band, back in '67,does this answer your qustion,if yes,i am happy to help you out! That the music was created in a progressive form, too ,can be accepted.

  • one badd as fuckin tune, and one badd ass fuckin lead solo/wynn

  • Progressive rock was years later. This was psychedelia at it's finest. I remember this album well. I was in high school when it came out :)
