Maya text to dust (particle, smoke animation)

Great tutorial.. But, my question is: is there anyway to spread particles ( or to emit from the surface ) but instead from picture, to be from 3D object/.obj file?

I don't want to have text ( or some draw ) from particles, but i wanna real 3D object. ( something like fill object in RealFlow).

Is there anyway for this?

Why is it if i try and change the plane color it changes the particles the same color?

@dermotheaney If you had any idea how to use maya you would be able to tell what he is talking about. My suggestion to you is to go back and learn the basics, then move on to something like this. Don't try and run before you know how to walk.

why are you going sooo fast, ive a 3d for a film in five days...i need help getting tjis effect and im pausing and playing. your video of the screen is too small,. great effect but man...your supposed to be a tutorial...but your showing offf!!
