A lot of proof actually. I would recommend "The case for Christ" by Lee Strobel, he was a skeptic who became a beleiver after his investigation. Catholics do not take all parts of the bible literally and believe that science and scripture cannot contradict. Jonah? really? The world was created in 7 days? I don't think so! A proper understanding of scripture is very important when it comes to the Church's teaching. See the Catechism of the Catholic Church 101 - 141. Hope that helps =).
