He couldn't touch C.kleiber, not in any way shape or form. If you want to see/hear a great conductor, see Kleiber.

Celibicheeseday too busy eating fat lumps of cheese thats why this Brahms 2 lasts 900 days. Bravo to Barenboim though - Great pianist - he had to be for putting up with that fat lump on the podium!

I think you are correct: for Brahms, in his concertos the piano and orchestra are equal partners: neither is the "star of the performance". I really like this balance - and of course the music is TOP notch: everything Brahms published, was polished, inventive and amazing.

MUST disagree with you on this one: this is a wonderful tempo: not all full of fire and lightning as some interpret it!! The piece is delightful in many respects, and to rush through it would seem a true pity!!

I love this Concerto too, I always listened to it when i tried to relax and I do it still today :D

I mean you can just listen classic musik with one ear but you can also close your eyes trying to think off beein the Composer and thinking about what could have happened in his mind.

Close your eyes and concentrate on all the instruments and harmonics and everything, it can be so relaxing:D and brahms also composed some of his pieces in Carinthia where I live:D

There is a certain clarity about this interpretation, as opposed to the 'wall of sound' you often experience while listening to romantic era music.
