  • @gkatch22 And for a half-hour show to boot...nice touch in getting "The Girl from Ipanema" in the original Portugese.

  • Wonderful! I had not seen this since the original airing. Very stylish for its time. I remember noticing that this was the first prime-time show I had ever seen with such an extended opening teaser -- 5:41 until the opening titles! I don't think that was beaten until a Monty Python episode did an opening sequence until about 7 minutes was left. @johntechwriter: yeah, I tried to change the way I walked because of this.

  • Love all that spy TV from the 60's, like The Cat, Man From UNCLE, It Takes a Thief, etc. So many great shows back then that the whole country tuned in to watch.

Man, TV is so fragmented now. Back in the 60's, the whole nation was watching the same thing every night.

Fun to see the old commercials too. Man, the cigarette companies were all over us back then!

And of course, Rober Loggia is in the best movie of all time, Scarface!

  • Because of this show I went slinking around my high school in black turtleneck and slacks for a couple of years.

  • yikes, commercials also

  • I was a huge fan of T.H.E. Cat when it first aired. They created a unique background for the character that was cool. Loved that they didn't make him yet another cliche TV "private investigator" but a professional bodyguard instead.

  • The beginning is about all the daylight this show ever had. And yes. it''s ARmstrong...what a great voice he had. This very first episode is so much fun.. loaded with great music, and not in a hurry to get away from it.

  • @mizpahboy absolutely. a disney show late '50's

  • T.H.E. Cat(1966),Robert Loggia's(The Sopranos) 1st major TV series who in the style of Bond is always asked his name at the beginning of the episode, replying,Thomas Hewitt Edward Cat Once a circus aerialist, cat burglar, and master jewel thief, now works on the other side of the law as a bodyguard protecting people's whose lives are in danger. He uses his acrobatic skills with his collapsible grappling hook to penetrate places. He also carries a throwing dagger and pistol secreted in an arm holster.

  • R.J. Reynolds, the makers of Winston, bought a LOT of ad time for its various brands on numerous dramas and action/adventure shows during the 1966-'67 season, 'starfly', including this series. They were also the alternate sponsor of "THE BEVERLY HILLBILLIES", "LOVE ON A ROOFTOP", and primary sponsor of Richard Mulligan's "THE HERO" that season.
